My very first DJ booth was a tiny space: a broom closet. No joke. Oh, but it was super-awesome. I was hooked for life at the age of 14, when I was able to play the music for the starting line-ups of basketball games in Detroit from a janitorial room of a gymnasium. There was a tiny crack in the door through which I was able to see the action on the floor and it was the coolest thing to be able to play a fraction of a song in between time-outs…and the end of the quarters, I could play nearly a whole song! It was incredible!
My feeling is the same now as being a teenager: this is the most fantastic thing on the planet. While there are very few things in the world able to bring everybody together, music definitely has this power. I went to college (mainly for the football tickets) to major in Radio production; that led to a job at a radio station (101 WRIF); which led to buying my own gear to become an Emcee to meet people like you. I want to play the music that you and your friends will enjoy all night long, to inspire stories you will share for the next 50 years and beyond.
